This was a straightforward swap over of latches on an unusually heavyweight gate. The cir-clips inside these latches often snap over time due to the slamming of the gate – especially if they latch arm, limiter, receiver and gate are misaligned. In this case the circlip and the internal casting were damaged. Having sourced a replacement and changed this latch it was clear the gate had sagged a little on its upper hinge which meant the gate didn’t close smoothly and the latch arm didn’t slide as easily into the reciever as it should. A reset of the upper hinge and this gate and latch were good for another ten years.
