This customer wanted a shelf putting on the wall to hold 80kg.
Now normally when my customers tell me their picture, mirror, shelf, curtain pole etc is heavy I take it with a pinch of salt until I’ve weighed it myself. And inevitably it’s never as heavy as they guesstimate. So when this customer told me it was an 80kg requirement I was skeptical. After all that’s nearly equivalent to 4 suitcases packed and ready to go on holiday. But yea verily, when the customer showed me what would eventually be stored on the shelf (not in the picture) I changed my tune.
For several days the project bounced round in my mind whilst I researched wall fixing options. Fortunately the customer supplied the industrial brackets. Once the viability of substrate was assured (a good solid brick wall beneath 1/2″ of solid plaster ) it was simply a case of installing 12 deep wall fixings and bolting up the brackets. I think it was probably actually only 24 kg going on there. Even so i was happy to check the sturdiness of those brackets with two pull-ups of my 90kg athletic frame. I collapsed long before those brackets ever will!
